Aurora Womens Empowerment Foundation Among Honorees at Popular Annual Library Event

AURORA, IL, USA, November 22, 2022.  The Aurora Women’s Empowerment Foundation (AWEF), a board-directed nonprofit foundation supporting other nonprofits engaged in female empowerment work in Aurora, is among three to be honored at the Aurora Public Library District and Foundation’s Saturday, December 3rd celebration to help raise funds for a new Mini-Bookmobile to serve the needs of elderly and homebound residents, a Bookmobile Maintenance Fund, and Literacy Packets for vulnerable children in Aurora.

The theme for this year’s popular annual event is Journey to Narnia and features a silent auction with scores of items ideal for holiday gift giving and crowd favorite “Dueling Pianos” entertainment provided by Ted Oliver Productions.

Also at the event, the Aurora Public Library District and Foundation will honor this year’s Light of Learning Inspiration Award recipients John Savage and Jeffry Butler, for their dedication and service to the Aurora Public Library District and Foundation. The Thomas J. Weisner Award for Excellence in Education Collaboration Award recipient for 2022 is the Aurora Women’s Empowerment Foundation (AWEF).

“We are very grateful for the partnership we enjoy with all three of our awardees and are thrilled to honor them at our December 3rd celebration,” said Laura Stoney, Aurora Public Library District Foundation Manager.

This year AWEF has been selected to receive the Thomas J. Weisner Award for Excellence in Education Collaboration, which was established in 2018 to honor Thomas J. Weisner, Mayor of Aurora from 2005-2016. Mayor Weisner encouraged collaboration and spent much of his time as mayor working with others to help them reach their full potential. He was also instrumental in bringing a new main library to Aurora.

Said Stoney, “We honor the Aurora Women’s Empowerment Foundation’s work, in collaboration with the library to bring financial literacy education to young women and teens who may not otherwise receive this information, and also for making it possible for so many organizations that impact women’s lives to collaborate together to make a greater impact.”
